Impact Report
Our project is Anlo Literary Project, a literary project initiated by DCOP Dr. Dinam Zoiku after a very low performance of BECE candidates in the previous years. This project focuses on equipping the children with the requisite skills for the exhibition of creativity in their writing, reading with comprehension and thinking critically.
What makes this project different from all others is the team of dedicated librarians who visit the schools regularly to give out books to students, engage and support the children to read, and also forming writer’s clubs to give assignments and monitor progress.
We had quite a number of books we were using for the project over a period of 3 years until our bookstock got depleted. We needed books to continue with the project and make materials available in order to achieve the desired outcome.
We received fiction books for the children, young adults and adults with some handful of non-fiction books. However, the children books were very much useful since our target group is from ages 5 through to 14.
We can’t downplay the impact of the donated books. Teachers in these basic schools,being the immediate beneficiaries of this project attest to the fact that most of their children who couldn’t read even 2-letter words have started reading stories with 4 or more letter words which confirms the fact that when the resources are available, they motivate children to learn. A total of approximately not less than 2000 and more than 4000 learners are estimated to benefit from the project annually.
We acknowledge the effort and dedication of DCOP Dr. Dinam Zoiku, the executive director of Anlo Literary Project who consistently ensures resources are available for the upkeep of this project and ensuring that every child begins to think critically. We also acknowledge the librarians from the Ghana Library Authority for always being available to assist the children to acquire the reading skills and the staff of the Ghana Education Service who also join hands with the librarians in doing this great work.
